Socialize vs Meetup
A Meetup alternative for clubs and event communities
Meetup is a good place to be found. Socialize is built for what comes next: events with your partner venues, members who turn up and come back, and a community you run your way, on Socialize itself or on a platform of your own.
Two ways to launch
Run your club on Socialize itself, or put the same platform under your own brand.

What an organiser weighs, one line each.
| What you’re comparing | Meetup | Socialize |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A network for finding and building local groups: organisers create a group, and people find it on Meetup. | A community and events platform we set up with you, run by you or with our help, on Socialize or as a platform of your own. |
| Your brand | Your group lives on meetup.com and in the Meetup app. Meetup Pro adds a branded network page; its published plans offer no own domain or own-brand app. | On Socialize, the Socialize brand. With a platform of your own: your name, logo, colours and domain. |
| Members | Members join with a Meetup account. Exporting mailing lists is a Meetup Pro feature. | On Socialize, members use Socialize accounts. With a platform of your own, the member base is yours. |
| Finding new members | A real strength: Meetup promotes groups by e-mail, in suggestions, in its own search and in search engines. | Members discover events inside the app by interest, city and map. Event pages are for members, so they don’t appear in search engines. |
| Attendance | RSVPs, waitlists when an event has a limit, and QR check-in with no-show tracking. | Seat limits, minimum numbers, waitlists that fill automatically, cancellation windows, QR or PIN check-in and a reliability record for every member. |
| Venues | Built around organisers and their groups; no tools for venue operators on its published plans. | Partner venues get their own dashboard to publish events and check guests in, and their member deal shows as a member price on every event. |
| How it’s paid for | Organisers pay a Meetup subscription. Members can pay for Meetup+, Meetup’s own membership. | An agreed launch and a monthly platform fee (the pricing estimator shows indicative figures), with no commission on event prices. |
Meetup’s side of this page is based on Meetup’s own website and help centre, checked on 5 October 2026. Plans and features change, so check meetup.com for the current details. Meetup is a trademark of its owner; Socialize is not affiliated with or endorsed by Meetup.
Why operators choose Socialize
What changes with Socialize
A community that’s yours
Your community is not one group among many in someone else’s app. Launch on Socialize, or run a platform under your own name, brand and domain, where the member base is yours.
Nights you can plan around
Minimum numbers, automatic waitlists and cancellation windows keep events full; under-booked events cancel themselves in time, and every member builds a reliability record.
Venues on your side
Partner venues publish their own events, see sign-ups and check guests in from their dashboard, and offer your members a deal shown as a member price.
FAQ
Questions about moving from Meetup
Can we keep our Meetup group while we move?
Yes. Meetup can stay a place where new people find you, while Socialize becomes the home of your community: where members sign up for events, check in and come back.
How do our Meetup members move across?
Members create their own accounts, so nobody is signed up without agreeing to it. Share your invitation link with your Meetup group and members; campaign links show how many sign-ups each one brings.
Is Socialize self-serve, like Meetup?
No. We set the platform up with you, configured for your community, partners and market, and agree how much of the day-to-day we take on. Your members, hosts and venues then use it themselves.
Do our events show up in Google, as Meetup’s can?
Not today. Event pages are for signed-in members, so discovery happens inside the app, by interest, city and map. Your own website and channels bring people to sign up.
