Expat & international communities

A white-label app for expat and international communities

A new city is easier with people around you. Give newcomers and locals a branded home to find events in a language they speak, meet in small groups and stay in touch, on the platform that already does this in Budapest, in Hungarian and English.

The app rebranded as Gatherly, a fictional example brand, with a violet theme and events in Amsterdam.

The challenge

What an international community needs

  1. Language shouldn’t be a barrier

Members need to know which languages they will hear at an event before they turn up.

  2. Small groups, not big mixers

Newcomers make friends at a table of six more easily than at a party of a hundred.

  3. Locals and newcomers together

The best international communities mix both, and discovery by interest rather than nationality makes that happen naturally.

How the platform helps

How the platform runs your community

Languages, cities and small groups are built into the platform, not added on.

  • Languages on every profile

Members list the languages they speak, starting with their native language.

  • Languages on every event

Event pages show which languages the people going speak, so nobody walks into a conversation they can’t join.

  • An interface in their language

The app runs in English and Hungarian today; Dutch, German, French and Spanish translations are maintained alongside and can be switched on for your platform.

  • City-based discovery

Members choose their city, and the feed, map and calendar show what’s happening there.

  • Small-group events

Seat limits keep events small enough to talk, with a waitlist when they fill up.

  • Chats and connections

Every event has a group chat, and people who met can connect afterwards.

What your members see

Can members see who speaks their language before signing up?

Yes. Event pages show the languages spoken by the people going, so members can choose events where they will be understood.
